In 2006, Emdeon Dental successfully released a new user-friendly web portal product to assist dental practices in managing their everyday administrative tasks more efficiently and to directly connect them to leading commercial and government payers for real-time eligibility verification, plan benefits information, and claim status.
By working closely with our business partners, Emdeon Dental has taken tremendous strides in educating the dental community on real-time services. From January 2006 to August 2007, the number of providers using our real-time services doubled. We are also excited to report that the number of insurance companies we added to our real-time list increased dramatically over the previous year. For those unfamiliar with our real-time product, the following information provides clarification on what our service can provide your practice.
Emdeon’s real-time product allows providers to check the status of an electronically submitted claim. If a provider needs to obtain the status of a claim before the patient arrives, while the patient is receiving treatment, or even while speaking with the patient on the phone, that information can now be retrieved quickly and easily by searching claims by the patient’s identification information. Claims information may also be retrieved using a variety of identifiers, including dentist name or ID, date of service, and insurance company.
Providers can then inform patients of the status of their claim – whether it has been rejected or not, and if so, why; if it is pending due to the need of additional documentation; or if it has been paid, and if so, how much was reimbursed and when. Providers can collect the appropriate patient-portion amount if the patient is in the office or send a “statement on demand” when the claim status information is received. Emdeon’s web-based application is designed to provide dental offices end-to-end visibility into the status of their claims throughout the adjudication process and creates a remarkably fast, real-time dialogue between dental practices and insurance companies.
